I've passed the drug and TB tests, was fitted for a mask, given a security badge and confirmed that all of my vaccinations are up to date. That part is over, check.
I made an unannounced introduction to the Director of Pastoral Care (while he was in the midst of JCAHO preparation). What a great way to make a first impression.
He mentioned in passing that there are five CPE students enrolled in the program - three of which are ordained ministers, two are not. I'm one of the two who are not. We all have to start somewhere. Why not with CPE?
There have been other CPE blogs which proved to be candidly informative while researching whether or not to pursue a career in chaplaincy. It is my hope that blogging about the CPE experience will be a catharsis for me and informative for other CPE interns.
I welcome suggestions and insights from other chaplains and medical professionals who feel comfortable making contributions to this blog in regards to their patients' spiritual needs, their interactions with chaplains, recommended reading, so on and so forth. (Prayers are appreciated as well.)
